About

At the Fox & Beggar Theater, we employ a style we call “cirque poétique” (the poetic circus). Featuring ornate storytelling interwoven with the unusual logic of dreams, our productions lie in the space between physical theatre, dance, design, contemporary circus arts and acrobatics, mask-and-puppetry, musical performances, and visual art.

Founded by Artistic Director Nat Allister in 2013, the FBT spent three seasons in Asheville NC before moving to the West Coast. In Summer 2017, the company was joined by Portland writer/director Heather Beckett. We have performed on the East Coast at the Montford Park Amphitheater, The Orange Peel, The Diana Wortham Theatre, The UNSCA Stevens Center, The Bardo Performing Arts Center, 7 Stages Theatre, The Peace Center, The Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, as well as at LEAF Community Arts and Gratifly Music and Arts Festival. We have performed on the West Coast at Oregon Eclipse Festival and Portland’s Alberta Abbey.

The FBT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to creating innovative works of physical theatre, to building bridges between artistic communities, and to providing for the training and education of performers, dancers, designers, technicians, and other artists involved in its shows.
